AI-guided design support for standards-based industrial automation

Standards-Based Industrial Automation Design

hpad supports industrial automation suppliers and engineering teams by combining knowledge of industry standards with knowledge of proprietary products and design logic.

In the demonstrated POC, hpad learned technical specifications for vendor hardware and software products and combined that knowledge with an expert’s mental model of the relevant parts of the O-PAS Standard. The AI companion then answered product questions and provided step-by-step guidance to design a control solution aligned to the standard for a simple level control requirement.

AI support for HAZOP studies and process safety analysis

Process Safety & HAZOP Analysis

hpad supports process industries by helping experts perform HAZOP-related analysis using an AI companion grounded in a structured model of the plant and its operations.

In the demonstrated case study, hpad built an enterprise AI model of an acrylic resin manufacturing process by capturing equipment, process streams, sensors, and controls, then used that model to reason through HAZOP tasks. The AI companion identified relevant nodes for study, applied guide words to design intent, analyzed causes and consequences of deviations, identified existing safeguards, and suggested additional safeguards to improve safety and maintain process intent.

Published in Refining India, this case study demonstrated that hpad’s AI companion could carry out core analyses required for a HAZOP study and significantly reduce the time and effort required from scarce domain experts. In the example shown, it also suggested measures such as redundant flow meters, high and low flow alarms, automatic shutdown systems, and improved control algorithms.
